Milo the Monkey
AARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH It’s not banana season yet Jojo why did you make me eat this their not ripe.
“Ha-Ha got you sucker,” yelled Jojo. “Ahhh you will pay, banana fight!” I said.
“WHAT are you boys up to stop monkeing about” growled Gorge the oldest monkey.
“But we are monkeys” Jojo and I said. Before the old grump could say anything else we jumped away threw the bushes to our secret hide out.
I’m Milo I am a monkey that lives in Madagascar with the rest of the group. I have red brown fur and dark green eyes. If you think about it I’m quite a catch too bad the lady’s don’t think so. My best friend is Jojo we look so much alike the only thing that makes us different is that he has blue eyes. We were born 2 days apart and believe me Jojo lets me know it he thinks he’s superior just because he’s two days older.
Now that you know how incredibly awesome I am lets get on with the story. Tonight are the star sky’s and almost every body comes to them because they are always fun. If we are lucky we might even see a shooting star and that would mean good luck. When Jojo and I arrived we threw are selves over all the games and we had a blast. When we finished we found a nice branch to sit on and ate the fruits we won in the games. Jojo always won heavy lifting like seeing how many coconuts you could carry. I on the other hand was quick and swift I always won all the races. Together we were a great team that’s why we always partnered up in sports at our monkey school.
Jojo and me just came back from the star skies and I have to tell you it was great except for that we didn’t find any shooting stars. That’s when we heard it. The blow horn the one sound that can turn an entire night around. Little did I know that this sound was going to change every thing. For you this might not mean much but for us it was a warning. This sound only broke threw the trees when one of our guards saw something dangerous. When finally the guard came of his high tree to tell us what had happened. He said every one guard your children, prepare the slingshots, make sure the traps are ready its time to go to war. It turns out our arch enemy the Malabar was trying another useless attack on us. Boy are they going to be sorry when were done.
First we got all the banana peels we could carry and threw them on the floor. Before we knew it all the Malabar went sliding. Then the slingshots threw big coconuts that thundered down on them. When the Malabar stopped sliding they stood still and took a breath that’s when we opened the trapdoor were they fell into a pit. Seeing as we didn’t have any punishment we decided to let them go with a warning. The Malabar never defeat us anyway.
Once this was over it started to rain were we lived that was not so often so some off the young ones were scared of it and hid under the tails of their mother. This reminded me of when I was still small I did the same the first time I saw those big raindrops. While I was standing there remembering my childhood Jojo said “common lets go its late we have school tomorrow.” So I nodded and followed still deep in thoughts. When I arrived at my tree and slid into my little monkey hammock. My eyes closed and I drifted into a light sleep.
Not for long…
“Milo, Milo, MMMMMIIIIIILLLLLLLOOOOOOO wake up lazy we have to go” Yelled Jojo.
What is it time for school?
“NO the river its… its… flooding!” stuttered Jojo.
What??? I quickly stood up and went to look for myself. I was astound the river had over flown and now the trees that were close to it were beginning to be pulled down stream. “Oh no isn’t that were the mothers and newborns live? Common Jojo we have to help!”
“Right behind you” he said. We quickly ran to river.
When we arrived other people were helping as well. The leaders quickly instructed us to carry the kids inland. Once we had saved about 6 babies and 2 mothers we thought the worst was over but we couldn’t have been more wrong. I turned around when I heard a lowed ripping noise. One of he tree homes near the river had just given in and was being pulled in by the fast stream. That’s when I saw it a small baby monkey was going down with the tree. Splash! The tree plus monkey were in the river. We Bora Bora monkeys have many talents but swimming is not one of them.
We all watched helplessly at the riverside as one of our people was gasping for air. The little monkey had just gotten hold of one of the twigs on a log that had fallen of and was now going down stream. Not knowing what to do she tried to climb on the log with the attempt of keeping balance. No such luck she just kept slipping and falling. Know all she could do was hold on to the almost breaking twig with her tiny fingers.
At that moment Jojo nudged me “look a vine if we can get it close enough to the river, I can hold it while you swing upside down and grab her. I can then pull you guys back up.” It was not the greatest plan but it could work. So we grabbed the vine doing as said. I tied the rope to my legs and Jojo lowered me down to the river while he stood on the tree holding the vine. While I was hanging their like a banana stalk I saw the log that she was clenching onto. I quickly offered her my hand witch she tried to grab but couldn’t. After the fifth try she finally managed to grab my pinky. Then with out hesitating Jojo pulled us out bringing us to safety.
When we got of the tree and back on the ground all the people started cheering and the mother came to us thanking us for saving her child. When every one was done whistling and applauding the leader announced us to be true heroes. Jojo and I had never felt so good about something. We took a bow and decided always to help a monkey in need.
THE END
